Reducing methane emissions
WINs from Bali
The World Improving Numbers from the Bali Project capture the elimination of dangerous Greenhouse Gase emissions by helping the indigenous rice farmers adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation. Our frontier emissions measurements found that AWD eliminated more than 30 tonnes of CO2e/ha/year while also reducing water use and avoiding the runoff of harmful nutrients.

Carbon Offsets
To support the farmers who adopt AWD we are selling carbon offsets. To ensure high-quality offsets, we will monitor, verify, and report (MVR) AWD adoption using our remote sensing and automated infrastructure.

WxC's Mission
The goal of WxC is to use quality science and technology to support the indigenous land stewards whose efforts improve the planet. Our team is composed of a group of people who embrace this mission and volunteer their time so that most of the revenue from offset sales can be passsed on to the farmers. A minimal amount of revenue is used to sustain the scientific, monitoring, and administrative activities needed to operate, and scale, the system.

Become a Patron
To participate in our mission, please consider the purchase of some Bali Project carbon offsets. Becoming a Patron is a meaningful way to improve the global commons, support indigenous farmers and globally sustainable agriculture (rice fields are being replaced by resorts on Bali), and recognize one's impact on the planet.
Carbon offset markets
Transparency
Carbon offset markets have been subject to occasional corruption. Some offset promises have been specious, "certification" agencies have incentives to generate revenue through high certification fees (encouraging enterprises that prioritize profits) and the sale of "certified" credits, and so on, all of which have the potential for greenwashing. Market prices for offsets (presumably a homogenous good!), can range from under $1 to over $100 per tonne of CO2e at any given time, depending on market conditions and the perceived quality of the offsets.
A science-driven offset price
Quality
The Bali Project relies on world-class science and technology to establish emission levels and monitor, verify, and report the WINs generated by our stewards. Thus, the resulting offsets are of high quality, going beyond the existing standards across all dimensions. Given the early state of the project, we are offering our initial tranche of offsets at $25 per tCO2e. While this price is likely modest, it will allow us to get the project moving quickly so we can start to help the farmers.

Recognizing the costs of our actions
Externalities
There are activities in our lives that impose costs or benefits on others that we fail to recognize—such activities lead to unfortunate choices. For example, dropping litter saves one some time and effort, yet everyone who follows is harmed and, alas, none of these people want to expend the effort needed to clean it up, even thought it would benefit everyone in the future. Releasing CO2e into the atmosphere is littering at a global scale.
An information-age solution
WxC
By purchasing offsets, Patrons can recognize the true impacts of their activities. By receiving offset revenue, Stewards can recognize the benefits of taking on the added costs of changing their stewardship. The underlying idea behind this system is simple, the hard part was how to do it in a feasible way. Given recent technological advances, W-x-C is now able to realize this solution.
A final word
Choices
Patrons and Stewards need to recognize their impacts, and ultimate reliance, on the global atmospheric commons. Everyone should engage in whatever activities they most value while also considering the full implications, both good and bad, of their choices. When doing so, they may or may not want to change their choices. WxC just wants to ensure that whatever choices are made, they are well-informed.
